Home ownership is at an all time high. That is a good thing for them and the economy. Home ownership is not for everyone though. Many people for a variety of reasons choose not to live in a home but rather an apartment or duplex.
For those who do live in an apartment, they may end up with a serious false sense of security. Don’t fall victim to that feeling. The advice for apartment dwellers as it relates to home security is slightly different than for homeowners. There are no shrubs to hide behind.
It is no less important just different. Here are some tips for apartment dwellers to follow to allow you to sleep a little better at night and make your living environment more secure.
1. ALWAYS Keep your door locked-even when you are at home. Use door alarms.
2. ALWAYS Keep your windows closed and locked. Use window alarms.
3. ALWAYS Use your peephole. If you don’t have one demand that you get one. Once your door is open for anyone it takes a split second to force an entry.
4. ALWAYS change existing locks even if you have to pay. Do you know how many extra sets are floating around and who has them?
5. ALWAYS be alert especially when going to and from your building in darkened areas, alleys, underground garages etc. It is not a bad idea to carry some pepper spray at the ready-you never know.
6. NEVER fall into a false sense of security because there is a guard or an extra key is needed to get in. They may offer some more security but they are not foolproof.
7. ALWAYS have some self defense products around in your apartment-stun guns, pepper sprays. You just never know.
Be proactive and protect yourself, family, home, or business from the ravages of crime. Follow these tips and you will take a giant step towards securing your apartment and its contents. Don’t fall victim to that false sense of security of strength in numbers.
